When packing pet foods with a vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) machine, several factors need to be considered to ensure efficient and effective packaging:
Pet food comes in different shapes and sizes, such as kibble, pellets, biscuits or a variety of different shaped treats. The specified machine must handle your product efficiently without causing blockages or damage.
Many dry products produce fine dust during the packaging process. Dust extraction may be required in these cases to prevent contamination in the seal as well as reducing anyairborne contamination around the production line.
Pet food often needs to be protected from moisture and light to maintain freshness, so the chosen packaging material will need to have strong barrier properties and be durable to withstand handling, transportation, and storage conditions without puncturing or tearing. The barrier will also beimportant in containing any odour issues arising from pet food products.
GIC machines offer easy cleaning and sanitisation, which are essential features when packing dry and dusty pet foods.
Most liquids are packed in pillow packs, but at GIC, we can also configure our machine type to pack into a piping bag, which makes releasing the liquid incredibly easy and accurate – you just cut one corner off the trapezoidal pack and squeeze.
