Over 40 years experience

GIC has been designing, installing, and servicing vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) packaging machines for four decades. UK-made to the highest standards, GIC’s machines play an essential role in some of the country’s largest suppliers, working within the following sectors, fresh produce, salads and herbs, root vegetables, confectionery, pet foods, liquids, chemicals, powders, pulses and aggregates.

GIC machines are designed and built in Gainsborough to exacting standards. We are a gold-level partner in the Rockwell Automation PartnerNetworkTM programme, and all our component suppliers are hand-picked for quality and reliability.

Our vertical form fill and seal machines offer the optimum combination of effectiveness, reliability and low cost of ownership backed by first class technical and servicing support.

40 years of GIC

1984

GIC is incorporated 7th Sept 1984

Our early years were spent as an electrical panel shop hence our full name of Gainsborough Industrial Controls.

1985

Rose Forgrove contract won

Won the contract to build all of Rose Forgrove Packaging Machinery’s’ electrical panels.

1991

Closer ties with Rose Forgrove

We developed a range of VFFS machinery, badged and sold under the Rose Forgrove range called Vertiflow.

1993

1st VFFS machine sold

Started to sell Packaging Machinery in our own name, a VFB2 to County Confectionery for packing Fudge

1993

2nd VFFS machine sold

West & Senior bought a VFB4 with a dosing pump and pot filler for packing powder

1994

Our 10th customer

GIC’s 10th customer was Doff Portland, who bought a VFB1

1996

Turnover reached £1m

In 1996 our turnover reached £1m for the first time

1996

25th customer

Our 25th customer, Harwood Pride, bought a VFB4

1996

First overseas customer

Cookson Chemicals in the USA bought a VFB4 VFFS with auger filler

1997

40th order

RS Components placed our 40th order

1998

Our first bullion plant

Designed and installed our first bullion plant, for Midland Bank Manchester

1999

First order in frozen food sector

Supplied a stainless steel VFB2 servo to Coldwater Seafoods

1999

Received our 100th order

We received our 100th order in September 1999

2000

PPMA Show

We attended the PPMA Show for the first time in 2000

2000

First fresh produce machine sold

E Park & Sons ordered a VFB2000 to pack whole-crop baby potatoes

2002

Our GIC CUB first introduced

We developed our first CUB machine in 2002 for Security Plus

2003

Attended British Potato

We attended British Potato for the first time in 2003

2003

First high-speed continuous motion machine

We designed, developed and installed our first high-speed continuous motion machine

2003

GIC joined the PPMA

Became members of the Processing & Packaging Machinery Association

2006

MBO completed

GIC directors Andy Beal and Luke Murphy completed their MBO in December 2006

2007

Our 10th employee

Keith Marrow joined us Application Manager South and is still in the role today

2007

Brought mechanical design in-house

Shane Ellis was our first design manager, followed by Alan Fotheringham, who is with us today

2007

First post-MBO apprentice

Sam Oliver joined the team at GIC as our first post-MBO apprentice

2008

Our first Quad machine

We developed our first Quad machine in 2008

2008

Moved to our current home

We moved to our current home in May 2008, buying the building in 2022

2011

First aggregates packing machine

We delivered our first machine for packing aggregates – a VFB5000

2015

Our 20th team member

Aaron Hodgson, joined as an apprentice electrician, now promoted to field service engineer

2017

Introduced our angled machine

For delicate produce, with Barefoot’s of Bottle buying the first one

2018

300th GIC machine sold

Branston bought a GIC8000 to be used in the fresh produce industry

2018

25th team member joins

Nick Beal joined us as a software engineer, today he is our Service & Support Manager

2019

First machine to Australia

Working with the DNL Group, we sent our first machine to Australia

2019

New leaf salad invention

GIC invented the leaf salad assisted drop (LSAD)

2020

Received our largest order

Natures Way placed our largest order – 16x GIC 4100, salad spec machines

2021

Expanded our production area

We expanded our production area by investing in a mezzanine floor

2021

Joined Rockwell Automation

We joined Rockwell Automation’s original equipment manufacturer partner programme in November

2022

Supplied our 50th machine

In March 2022, we supplied our 50th machine into the salad industry

2023

21 years – Stourgarden

In February, we celebrated 21 years of working with Stourgarden

2023

Solar Panels installed

As part of our continued investment plan, solar panels were installed on our building

2024

Highest turnover ever

2024 was our best-ever year in terms of turnover

38 years of service

Longest serving employee, lead electrician John Colley achieved 38 years of service
